Random Thoughts

When two lines form an angle, the further one goes from the origin - the more distant the two lines become. When an individual becomes a guru or someone with lot of influence on a large number of people or is in a position of lot of power, his personality flaws or his imperfections that had minor impact when he was not very important to anyone also blows up. The personality flaws or imperfections that to begin with were imperceptible get blown up or magnified. That small initial deviation from ideal will manifest as a gross divergence from the ideal as he makes that transition from an individual to someone with a lot of influence.

So this practice of elevating humans to status of living Gods or worshiping them generally ends badly with the living Gods coming crashing down and leaving people disillusioned. Humans are imperfect and there are several deviations from the ideal or what is called God. The flaws that made them human may not be apparent initially but there will be a time when their flaws get magnified along-with all their other qualities and it comes to light in all it's ugly glory. So never place humans on a pedestal where you look at them as Gods and you forget that they have flaws too.

Another related aspect is the fact that as a person grows in  influence - a politician, Godman, superstar etc he gets increasingly surrounded by people who deify them or look up to them. These politicians, Godmen etc are feeding off this deification causing them to have an exalted view of themselves and forgetting their flaws or never having to come face to face with their shortcomings. According to Jordan Peterson, that is why probably the idea of a court jester in the King's court came to be. The jester was one who could through the medium of comedy give the Kings a glimpse into the truth or a different viewpoint. The jester could through comedy convey delicate issues that the King might have been otherwise averse to hearing from anyone. In modern times critics, opposition parties in politics, public dissent etc serve the same purpose. To remind these figures of their deficiencies, flaws etc and hence serve a very important purpose. Kabir's doha on the subject is a beautiful way of putting this across where he talks about keeping a critic close to oneself - it has the effect of cleansing your self the way a soap cleanses hands.

God is a concept of idealism or perfection which one aspires to or looks upto or something that serves as a guide. To be human means to be imperfect. Human civilizations across the world came up with the same concepts of God or a higher being because it is dealing with something very fundamental with "being a human". They needed something that was essentially not human but relatable to being human and could serve as the idea of perfection - something that was to be aspired and endeavored for without ever being able to achieve it fully.

In Hindu mythology there are Avataars of some Gods where they take human form to live on earth. In their life as avataars, they have been depicted with some flaws or commit some mistakes in their lifetimes since they are humans. Even in the case of Hindu God Ram who is an avataar of Lord Vishnu and is known as Mariyada Purushottam which means " the man who is Supreme in righteousness", some mistakes were incorporated in his life to cater for his being human. He could not be made flawless because then he would be God himself and not a human avataar.

Another analogy about the concept of God - would be to think of a circle. A circle drawn by say a human hand might seem like a good circle but if it is zoomed into, one will start to see the aberrations from a circular form. If say a computer drawn circle is seen it might initially continue to appear as a absolutely circular form even through many levels of zooming but ultimately if the resolution is increased the imperfections start to reveal. God is the image of a perfect circle that even on infinite level of zooming-in will continue to be a perfect circle. The idea of God is the idea of perfection - that which is beyond flaws. You can pick up any quality or virtue, elevate it to perfection and call it God.
